What is World Health Day?

World Health Day is observed on 7th April every year. The day is commemorated to create awareness about global health issues. The day also highlights the importance of good health and well-being. The theme for this year is ‘Building a fairer, healthier world for everyone’. The day was established by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948. The WHO is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is responsible for international public health. The day is an opportunity to draw attention to the enormous global burden of disease and to promote action to address the social and economic determinants of health. There are a number of health issues that are of global concern, such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, Malaria, non-communicable diseases, mental health, and road traffic accidents. The day is an opportunity to raise awareness about these issues and to call for action to address them. In recent years, the day has also been used to launch global health campaigns. For example, in 2016, the day was used to launch the ‘End TB’ campaign, which aims to eliminate tuberculosis by 2030. In 2017, the day was used to launch the ‘Depression: let’s talk’ campaign, which aims to reduce the stigma around mental health and to encourage people to seek help. The day is an opportunity for people all over the world to come together and take action on global health issues. There are a number of ways in which you can get involved: • Raise awareness: Use the day to raise awareness about global health issues in your community.
